- I have had b/w Imagine generated imagery output to film, as well as printed
- it out on my own dye sub printer. You are correct about the 256 shades of
- gray limitation (128,128,128, 200,200,200, etc.). There is a similar
- limitation when outputting a "pure" colored object in a rendering, such as
- a sphere colored as 255,0,0. In both cases the problem appears to be that
- the I was giving the output device only 256 colors to work with. The
- workaround in the first case was to set up my scene rendered with object
- colors such as 125,130,116, and in the second case as 255, 7, 11, or
- something similar. By giving the ouptput software and hardware more colors
- to work with, you can get smooth monochromatic effects. There will be, in
- fact, some slightly colored pixels, but the eye (mine at least) cannot
- discern them.
